This is a really great little bag ! You can do many variations to change the look. You can also make this bag constructed (hard) or non- constructed (soft). I would suggest soft !
The tutorial is for a constructed bag.

I have not made this bag in 13 years so basically this is from memory. When I made this bag in the past I had a cylinder machine that allow me to sew around the bag making them (bags) easy to close. In this next set of tutorials I have to change the gusset so that I can sew the bag easier on my flatbed. This is most likely the type of machine you have, so we need to alter the gusset and pinch the corners. There are a number of different ways to sew the same bag just depends on what types of machines you have at your disposal.
In the next set of tutorials we will alter our gusset just a little to make the bag easier to close.
In the meantime this is where we are at in the bags development.
I place a piece of tulle over my diamonds .
Placed my flowers in the middle and cover with another piece of tulle that goes across all three.

The tulle is glued down on the sides and between the diamonds to hold the flowers in place until the lining is put in.
I want to repeat, you can make this bag from soft materials, it maybe easier for you to sew if you do.

Woohoo! I have my bag almost completed, thanks to you! I drafted my pattern a little differntly and I have some ideas to change it up for the next one. I am adding a flap with a small magnetic closure and fabric roses- no cutouts. This was so fun to make once I figured out what I was doing- lol! Of course I made LOTS of mistakes but this is a learning process. I realized that I needed to find a place for chipboard in larger sizes- what I found at Hobby Lobby isn’t quite big enough. Maybe if I had those staples from Rome fasteners I could have made it work, but I didn’t so I had to use poster board. And of course I got a spot of glue on the fanric so I had to rethink the placement of the roses= errrrr. I will send you some pics as soon as I am finished. THANK YOU!!!

That’s wonderful! It’s fun when you get the hang of it! Can’t wait to see your pictures.
Hi,
I recently took apart a small handbag I’ve had for years to see how it was made. To my surprise it was glued in sections, and the outside topstitched. Since I’ve watched your tutorial I can see why. I’m on my way to get some chip board, and this is the first time of me hearing about it. I am enjoying the tutorials, and they are giving me more ideas. I have been selling my bags at flea markets and at craft shows at my school. But I would like to move on to the next level. I recently received my Ohio Travel Bag. On my way to Michaels to look for some chip board.
Cool! Glad you like the tutorial.
I loved the look of the Diamond Bag. Great job
I am glad I found this website. I was showing it to my daughter although she don’t do things like this but she is my model and I make purses for her to carry, she said she get lots of comments on them and people be wanting where she got them from. I can go on and on about this but I really need to get to the store. See You in a little while.
The are a lot of variations that can be done with the diamond bag.
